Spiritual Rape in the Church

*Have you ever felt betrayed, manipulated, or silenced in a place meant to bring healing and hope?

In Spiritual Rape in the Church, Karen Gray Freeman courageously shares her raw and personal journey through the hidden world of spiritual abuse. With powerful transparency, she exposes how some who claim to shepherd others instead use control, manipulation, and intimidation to exploit and destroy.

Freeman’s story reveals the deep wounds such betrayal leaves—and the God who faithfully heals them. This book offers:

* Warning signs of spiritually abusive environments
* Insight into trauma and the path to healing
* Discernment to separate true godliness from deception
* Empowerment to reclaim your voice and walk in freedom

A lifeline for survivors and a wake-up call for the Church, this is a bold invitation to confront darkness and embrace the healing power of God's truth.

Karen Gray-Freeman

Pastor Karen Gray Freeman was born on May 3, 1962, to Pastor Wilbert Gray and Minister Delores Gray. At the age of ten, during a church service at her family’s church, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized shortly after. This encounter marked the beginning of a lifelong journey of spiritual dedication and service.

She was raised and educated in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School in 1980. That same year, she began formal Biblical training at the Church of Bible Understanding in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1981, she entered full-time outreach ministry in Brooklyn, New York. While living in New York City, she pursued additional studies in psychology at Cornell University and worked as a trained mediator.

Upon returning to Washington, D.C., Pastor Freeman served for 18 years in the Communications Department of DC General Hospital, where she rose to the position of Supervisor. She earned certifications in medical terminology, medical coding, and medical administration from the University of the District of Columbia. In 2020, she became a certified Chaplain, and on October 2, 2022, she was officially ordained as a Pastor.

Pastor Freeman has faithfully served in a wide array of church leadership roles, including youth ministry, worship leadership, Sunday School teaching, Bible study instruction, church administration, and as a women’s ministry coordinator. She has also served as Associate Pastor in three churches and has mentored and supported numerous Pastors and ministries across the Washington, D.C. area.

Her greatest calling came through founding God Is For You Ministry—a Christ-centered, healing-focused ministry birthed from her own encounters with the effects of spiritual abuse, toxic leadership, and religious manipulation. With a passionate heart for the spiritually wounded, Pastor Freeman seeks to reach those who have been hurt, silenced, or rejected by the very institutions meant to nurture their faith.

Through this ministry, she proclaims a message of restoration, freedom, and unconditional love:

God is for you—not against you.

He loves you deeply and sent His Son to set you free.

Pastor Freeman believes that victims of spiritual trauma can experience healing and wholeness. She teaches that joy can be restored, trust can be rebuilt, and that one can live in the fullness of God’s purpose—free from spiritual sabotage, cultic oppression, and toxic control.

Above all, Pastor Karen Gray Freeman is a devoted wife, loving mother, adoring grandmother, and faithful servant of the Most High God. She is known for her wisdom, integrity, and anointing as a powerful teacher of God’s Word. Through her life and ministry, she continues to be a beacon of light to those who thought hope was lost.
